Enlightened and Restored
© 2020 Cindy Prince
I'm restored with my bare feet in the grass
I'm restored seeing a selfless act
I'm restored when I know all the facts
I'm restored
I'm enlightened in a meditative state
I'm enlightened knowing no hate
I'm enlightened standing at heaven's gate
I'm enlightened
Chorus
I'm enlightened and restored
When hearts are open wide
I'm healing and renewed
When all my tears have dried
I'm enlightened and restored
When I'm in the wild outside
Enlightened and restored
Once more
I'm healing when I have a restful sleep
I'm healing when I have treasures to keep
I'm healing when I know my love is deep
I'm healing
I'm renewed with the touch of a child
I'm renewed when I let myself be wild
I'm renewed and often beguiled
I'm renewed

Are You Out There?
© 2017 Cindy Prince
(spoken)
"If you ever look at the sky,
Doubting the existence of other worlds,
Just know that somewhere a creature
Looks up at the sky, doubting you exist"
1. A note appeared From where I know not
I had to smile And have deep thoughts
The message was Worth a ponder
Because it made me Stop and wonder
Chorus
Are you out there? Can you see me?
The earth from your galaxy?
Are you out there....are you out there?
Is it possible to show us the way to peace?
2. We know a lot Yet nothing I feel
Does time even exist? Are we all real?
Is this a matrix Does everything connect?
This note got me To stop and reflect
Chorus
Are you out there? Can you see me?
The earth from your galaxy?
Are you out there....are you out there?
Is it possible to show us the way to peace?

The Lighthouse Keeper
© 2020 Cindy Prince
On Maine's Seguin Island
A lonely place on the sea
There's a ghost with an ax
Wandering aimlessly
The keeper had bought a piano
For his wife to learn to play
But she only played the same song
Day after day after day
Chorus
He took his ax to the piano
He took his ax to his wife
He'd lost all of his sanity
Then he took his life
The lighthouse keeper took his own life
Bridge
If you visit the light house allegedly
You can still hear that haunted melody
They say on out on that island
He still walks with his ax
He could never forgive himself
So he can never relax
Repeat chorus

Plush seats
Eye contact
Small smiles
Down the track
Smooth fedora
Lovely lace
Back in time
Slower pace
Chorus
Long ago love on a train
The past on the rails
They fell for one another
As it journeyed into Wales
This old man told me his story
With such lovely details
Long ago love on a train
Cup of hot tea
They shared
Wasn't long
Til they cared
Married soon
On the train
Long lasting love
Always remains

At 2:53 am
© 2020 Cindy Prince
She died in the Spanish flu pandemic
At Coe College in her first year
Her parents later donated a grandfather clock
To remember their sweet dear
Her name was Helen Esther Roberts
She never reached eighteen
Students reported a ghost with mischief
Playing piano and causing scenes
Chorus
Tick, tock
Tick, tock
The clock always stopped
At 2:53 am
The time of her death
Helen stopped the clock
After she'd done her nightly haunting
She'd float into the big clock
She'd stop it at the time of her death
She gave every student a shock
The college decided to move it
Thought changing it's location would work
But she took residence in the new hall
And to this day she still lurks
Repeat chorus

The Clydesdale Horses Today
© 2020 Cindy Prince
I was lucky
This Thursday
The big Clydesdale horses were here
I was happy
It was great
To see the Clydesdale horses so near
Chorus
They are big, big horses
With long hair on their feet
They stand up so high
They're really neat
Their coats are all shiny
It was so sweet
To see the Clydesdales go by
I was excited
This July day
They pulled a wagon past me
I wasn't frightened
They are okay
The prettiest horses to see
Repeat chorus

Everything Good
© 2018 Cindy Prince
Long shadows stretch across the yard of early afternoon
A little girl wishes she could fly right up to the moon
She runs with arms out, having do doubt it can happen
She dreams of flight, and just might, conjure up a dragon
Chorus
May she never stop believing in everything good
Magic and possibilities, paths through the woods
Right now she sees the world as any child should
May she never stop believing in everything good
Bridge
The innocence in her eyes I always want to see
The joy she finds every day
Before the bigger world clouds her pretty eyes
And takes all the wonder away
The sun is now setting, with orange and pretty pink
She calls it her sunset, and she can feel the interlink
She is one with her world, and her spirit flows so free
It is great to view life through the eyes of a girl of three
Repeat chorus

Float off on Cloud Nine
© 2020 Cindy Prince
I want to spend time with you
Under Orion in the sky
I want a cabin in the mountains
Be with you until I die
I want to run away with you
To some warm tropical place
I want to lie in a hammock
Let you kiss me all over my face
Chorus
I want to kiss rain off your lips
Like taking small sips of the divine
I want to lavish you with gifts
Take some getaway trips
Float off on cloud nine
I want to escape the life stress
To dance on a beach somewhere
I want to sip umbrella'd drinks
And breathe in fresh air
I want to drift slowly away
Down a peaceful river with you
I want to stroll hand in hand
Do all that we'd dream we'd do

The Woman in the Window
© 2016 Cindy Prince
Chorus: Now she is
just the woman in the window
A wisp of nothing,
a shadow of a ghost
Sadly now,
she's the woman in the window
She searches for
the life she lost
Bridge: The story is told in Arkansas and Missouri
It is told in Florida and all across the south
When it's quiet you might hear her
Singing softly from a lifeless mouth
Verse 1: Once upon a time, in another century
A woman lived, a woman died
She appeared to live a fairytale
Had just become a southern bride
Verse 2: She had tired after much dancing
She sat down in her gown of lace
Her eyes closed for just a moment
She was too near the fireplace
Chorus:
Verse 3: She couldn't leave to go to heaven
She didn't realize that she was dead
So her ghost stays in the window
She wonders if again she'll wed

In my Dad's church one Easter
A wonderful healing came to me
I'd had too much pain
Was blind to any light I'd see
The pastor said to come forward
To stand near a cross of wood
There was a basket full of lilies
And suddenly I understood
Pre chorus
Forgiveness washed away
All my pain that Easter day
Chorus
So many tears came freely
And with each one that fell
The healing started
With the lilies on those nails
With Easter lilies on those nails
One after one they all came
Letting go of both anger and pain
Their tear filled eyes began to shine
As their healing then began
Repeat pre chorus and chorus

No One Could Tell
© 2020 Cindy Prince
For true friends
Time doesn't pass
Doesn't seem that long
Since we had class
At our little school
With one hallway
What I felt back then
I still feel today
For real friends
That stay in your heart
No matter if
You are world's apart
The caring is there
Has always been
From the beginning
We're forever friends
Chorus
The hugs were hard
The tears they fell
The laughter started
And all was well
If time had passed
No one could tell
Bridge
So many funny memories
Like when my banana
Was painted red, white, and blue
I don't know what I'd do
Without friends so true
For longtime friends
Who've had joy and pain
It was so wonderful
To see them again
I wouldn't be me
Without their support
I hope they know
They are my heart
Repeat chorus

A trip to the city
Mom by my side
Shopping for items
Fit for a bride
We'd found a hat
Wanted some gloves
How we found them
Was simply love
Pre chorus
Hadn't found any
In a whole day's hunt
Then suddenly a shop
Called Granny's Grunt
Chorus
I knew then she was there
There was no second guessing
Sending me her blessings
Sending me her love
And helping me find my wedding gloves
She was there too
I didn't have to search
On a cold autumn day
In a small log church
To add my ring
I removed one glove
Knowing I'm always
Surrounded with love
Repeat chorus

The Day After

The day after you transitioned
I saw you everywhere
You were in every flower petal
In the trees, clouds, air
The day after you left us
A butterfly touched on my face
Then went to each of my children
With your touch of grace
Chorus
The day of
The day after
And every day since
I have so missed you mother
So on this day
This is a day of remembrance
I love you
Bridge
When my pie tastes like yours
When I paint or write
I feel you are still near me
And in my dreams at night
The day after you left us
People from across the earth
Sent me their condolences
As you became the universe

How many petals do I pluck from the bloom
He loves me, he loves me not
How many hopes can I have all told
Have you forgotten
That it's obvious

Come take my hand and we'll dance

Shining Through
© 2020 Cindy Prince
One tiny dot of color
Wet and clinging to the next dot
Merging on a canvas
Colors galore
One tiny pulsating form
With swirling emotions and dreams
Trying to find their way
Like they did before
Chorus
Which color do I use for me?
Yellow, violet, blue or green?
Am I all white
Or am I all black
Or am I raw opal in a rock
Shining through the crack?
One canvas of life
Coming into a recognizable form
But the canvas changes
From first breath to last
One small person
Trying to splash their own color
Trying to make their mark
Beneath the artist's hand

I threw away all our pictures
Burned your love letters one at a time
Gathered every trace of you
That you might have left behind
The roses went into the trash bin
The box of candy too
Not sure if I'll ever try again
God, what you put me through
Chorus
Our love, just throw away
You said you couldn't stay
I'll toss away the things I can
Still trying to understand
Thrown away love...thrown away love
I pitched all those special event tickets
All those candles you bought for me
Now if I could just depose of all
Those burning memories
Repeat chorus

The Wilderness is a Necessity
© 2019 Cindy Prince
Concrete cities
Rising high
Brick buildings
Reach the sky
Barren landscapes
Vacant lots
Miles of emptiness
Unkempt spots
Pre chorus
Muir said it elegantly
Wilderness is a necessity
Chorus
Giant trees sway in the breeze
Paths wind and turn
Clear and pristine mountain scenes
Hillsides of soft green ferns
Wide open prairies free and airy
Wilderness is what we yearn
Bridge
Mow it down
Trim it back
Pave it over
Make dirt track
Cut it down
Build even more
Buy weed eater
And new lawnmower
Rows of old cars
Empty streets
Old theaters
With vacant seats
Miles of plastic
Torn down towns
Dead landscapes
Turning brown

I stood beneath the tall oak tree
I think I heard it whisper to me
"Stand tall, be proud
Reach up towards the clouds"
Always bloom where you're planted
It's best not to take life for granted
Embrace the joy of each season
For happiness doesn't need a reason
Chorus
Let your limbs sway and dance
Remember to enjoy the view
Be flexible enough to bend
And willing to start anew
Bridge
Sink your roots
Gather the fruits
Go out on a limb
Find strength within
Storms will come, storms will go
You are strong, can take the blow
Take your nourishment from the earth
Realize your astounding worth
Repeat chorus
Let your limbs sway and dance
Remember to enjoy the view
Be flexible enough to bend
And willing to start anew

He was in it
The liquid fluid and sunlit
I could see him
Somehow see him through it
I asked him a question
He readily replied
I thought there'd be sorrow
I thought I would have cried
Pre chorus
Was it a raindrop or a teardrop he was inside of
Was there sadness or only love?
Chorus
"It doesn't matter, they are one and the same
"It doesn't matter, he seemed to exclaim"
"We are all so much more than just human"
Then he whispered, "I will always be music"
Bridge
I didn't want to wake up from this amazing dream
I know we are all much more than we seem
We go on
Though we change shape
Somehow I know this
From a different landscape
The music goes on
But maybe we just feel it
I know there is grieving
May this song help heal it

Music knows and will find a way
Music, sweet music has something to say
In an event that happened long ago
In a letter, a diary-any way words flow
Music knows and has such power
Music, sweet music knows every hour
Chorus
When music heals
It touches your soul
When music fills up

Music, sweet music can make you whole
In ways both large and small
Music has a way of answering the call
Music opens hearts that once were closed
Music, sweet music is waiting to compose

We were both in our socks
Designing a tower
With her building blocks
There was giggling
Lots of fun
Kept building it higher
And then we were done
We knocked it down
Just to build it again
I talked to her some
About wisdom and pain
And I told her...
Chorus
Build yourself up
Just like we built this
You can do anything
You're such a whiz
Believe in yourself
Remember to stand tall
Remember to be kind
And tear down those walls
I told her she always
Has my support
I told her not to give up
Whenever she falls short
A gave her a hug
We giggled some more
As we sat side by side
Together on the floor

Chorus His hand rubs down her side

They flew down the highway free
And for a moment he's back in 1963

Between man and machine
That can take a man back
To being nineteen
Now his memories are few

Chorus

Blackbird Hill stands tall
Part of God's creation
You can still hear her haunting call
On October 17th every year
Her last scream can still be heard
The cry is always crystal clear

© 2020 Cindy Prince
Near Easter in 1968
A young couple was on a drive
And though the young man lived
His fiancee didn't survive
Near the town of Uniondale
On the winding roadway
Her ghost is still seen at night
So the ones that know her say
Chorus
She asks for a ride
She'll open your door
Right by your side she'll be
Then in one quick second
According to legend
She vanishes easily
Vanishes so easily
Bridge
Sometimes you'll hear her laughter
Chills will climb your spine
You won't be the same after
Once you cross over that line
Those who've given her a ride
Warn others of doing the same
If you see her drive on past
That Uniondale ghost of fame
Repeat chorus

Who Will Tend Her Roses

Who Will Tend Her Roses
© 2020 Cindy Prince
She is getting up in years now
Doesn't want to die alone
Loves her garden and roses
Loves her cottage home
She can still manage fairly well
If she doesn't hurry round
She worries what will happen
After she is heaven bound
Chorus
Who would tend her roses
Would they just dry up and die
Would anyone even notice
When they'd drive by
Who would water them carefully
Who would whisper to them
Who would treat each one personally
Time and time again
Who would tend her roses...roses
Bridge
Her roses have kept her going
Since her husband passed away
They are her pride and joy
And she talks to them every day
She tries not to think about it
No use worrying every day
Maybe someone will someday
Put roses on her grave
Repeat chorus

Cling

Cling © 2020 Cindy Prince
There was panic
She screamed
Was this just a bad dream?
She knocked
She scratched
Until she breathed her last
Chorus
She was buried alive
But no one could hear her cries
How could this have been the way she died
Bridge
When it was found out
Too many had been through this hell
They devised a way to stop it
They attached their wrist to a bell
Someone had to take the graveyard shift
To see if the bell would ring
They had a shovel handy
If they heard that bell cling...cling...cling
His eyes opened
He gasped
He knew that he was trapped
He banged
He cried
Until at last he died
2nd Chorus
He was buried alive
But no one could hear his cries
How could this have been the way he died

Grave Robber

Jean Baptiste
Was a gravedigger
In the Great Salt Lake region
No one knew
How he was wealthy
Until they found the reason
He'd been robbing graves
And selling the jewelry
And even wearing the clothes
They banished him
To a small lake island
That is now home to his ghost
Chorus
Don't go near the southern shore
Of the Great Salt Lake at night
You might just see his roaming ghost
Holding rotten clothes real tight
The grave robber gets no rest
He walks until first light
Mr. Baptiste was greedy
Took everything he could
Threw the stripped bodies back in
He didn't think they'd need
Their rings and clothes anymore
So he decided that he'd cash is
Repeat chorus
He wore a suit to court
He'd dug up one night
Thinking no one would care
But it was a storekeeper's
Burial suit
That he had the nerve to wear //Repeat chorus

Dirt Poor

I heard it many times
Memories of Mom and Dad
Growing up in the Depression
The dirt poor lives they had
My Dad told of eating possum
When there was nothing else
What they lacked in money
Was love beyond all wealth
Chorus
They were dirt poor
Had a dirt floor
But their blessings sure were many
They all knew
They had to make do
Everyone saving their pennies
They talked of eating cornbread
With milk from their old cow
They talked of no shoes to wear
And fields to weed and plow
Mom wore feed sack dresses
Dad worked for a dollar a day
Despite the trials and tribulations
They wouldn’t have it any other way
Repeat chorus

No more than 16
A runaway
Now on a street corner
Making her pay
Trying to act older
Makeup and dress
How she got here
Is anyone's guess
Was she an orphan
With no family
Why is she here
Clothed so scantily
Does she want drugs
To forget her pain
Is she drinking whiskey
But wanting champagne
What is her story
Does anyone care
Does anybody question
Why she's standing there
Is all of her hope gone
As well as her dreams
Is her young life
Even worse than it seems

Think Twice Before You Go
© 2020 Cindy Prince
In the North Georgia Mountains
Lake Lanier was built
250 families had to leave
They uprooted the people
Moved the cemeteries
So now there are ghosts
If you only believe
Chorus
Lake Lanier
Is scarier
Than any place I know
Lake Lanier
A water burier
Think twice before you go
Bridge
They moved the people
As well as the dead
Now the lake is haunted
Or so it's said
All the ghosts linger
Beneath the murky water
Waiting to pull you down
Freak accidents happen often
Far too many have died
It's best you not go there
For you too may drown
Repeat chorus

A Sunlit Sky
© 2020 Cindy Prince
Maybe like a bird in flight
This girl so precious and full of light
Took a piece of day and night
With her
What's been lost is her gain
She is past all the pain
Her spirit's on the heavenly plain
With God
Chorus
Sometimes there are no answers
Though we search for reasons why
Perhaps now she's a cloud dancer
Running through a sunlit sky
Maybe she'll come in dreams
Tell loved ones about silver streams
Everything is better than it seems
With her
Though her loved ones are distraught
She is nearer with just one thought
She sees things that we cannot
With God
Repeat chorus

White Gloved Ghost
© 2020 Cindy Prince
For 200 years in Scotland
The St Andrew's cathedral
Has housed a lady's spirit
On the stairs of the tower
She eerily whispers
Listen and you will hear it
Chorus
White gloved ghost
Will anybody notice
The long white gloves she wears
White gloved specter
Do you accept her
As she climbs the stairs
Bridge
In a hidden chamber
Stone masons found
Her in an open casket
On the cathedral grounds
Up and down the staircase
At night she floats
Wearing long white gloves
She seems to be waiting
For someone to come
Perhaps it is her long lost love
Repeat chorus

The Curse of Boontjieskraal(Old Father, Old Farmer)
© 2020 Cindy Prince
Legend has it
Old Father, Old Farmer
turned them away
On a cold stormy night
They weren't allowed to stay
The cold weary family
Had to cross the river wide
It's said a child or mother
Was swept away and died
Chorus
The curse was put on Old Father
For generations of sons
Every single one would die unnaturally
In retalliation for what he'd done
Bridge
Old Father, Old Farmer
drove off a bridge
His son died in a thrashing machine
The Grandson collided with a Packard
The last of the sons car careened
Some said it wasn't real
That curse couldn't be true
But every son died too early
So was it such a rue
Repeat chorus

The Pascagoula River Sings
© 2020 Cindy Prince
When conditions are right
In the day, in the night
The Pascagoula River sings
A soft humming sound
Can often be found
The sounds forever rising
Chorus
Some say the Pascagoula tribe
Disappeared there and that is why
It is their souls that are still singing
With a humming or a bell ringing
If you are patient you will hear it
The music of the Pascagoula spirit
Bridge
If you sit quietly on the river's shore
You will be changed forever more
Some say they sacrificed
Ready for another paradise
But let all their songs stay
Other legends interact
Are they false or are they fact
Maybe it's for you to say …Repeat chorus

Stay Away From Obvodny Canal
© 2020 Cindy Prince
Stay away from the Obvodny Canal
Or you might be pulled in
Many have ended their lives there
Keep away from the Russian canal
For it might be a sin
If you're too close
you won't have a prayer
Chorus
Some call it the Suicide Canal
Many have met their death
Those who know will warn you
Stay away from her murky depths
Some see a lady beneath the water
As they take their final breath
It flows through St Petersburg
Seemingly innocent enough
But violence is the norm
Workers and walkers
No matter how tough
Find that they too
must conform
Repeat chorus

Afrikaner Heroine
© 2020 Cindy Prince
In Afrikaner culture
Back in 1843
Rachel de Beer saved her brother
They were lost in the cold
She knew they'd both freeze
So she took on the roll of a mother
Chorus
Love is stronger than life or death
She saved a life but lost her own
Her story is told, this little girl heroine
With schools and streets she is still known
Bridge
Remember Rachel on a cold winter's night
Though it is sad, she did what was right
She found an anthill
Hollowed out by an aardvark
Told her brother to lie in it
She took off her clothes
In the cold and the dark
To save him she had to commit
Repeat chorus

Black Hope
© 2020 Cindy Prince
It was their dream home
So happy they'd found
But what they didn't know
Was buried deep underground
They were surely shocked
But not too concerned
Once they knew about it
It couldn't be unlearned
Buried beneath was the Black Hope
Chorus
Black Hope was the name
The ground had already been claimed
A slave cemetery they built on
So the ghosts live on...on....on
First there was the ice cold
Then the horrid moaning
Doors opened and closed
It was a dire warning
When they tried to dig
The daughter soon died
The family had to leave
There was nowhere to hide
Repeat chorus

Rage...Rage
© 2020 Cindy Prince
Though he wanted a record
He never made it to the end
Dylan had no words left
For either foe or friend
He was known for his drinking
And the White Horse Tavern
It was just as deadly
As a bloody sharp dagger
Chorus
Rage, rage against the dying of the light
Perhaps he meant it until that last night
For some unknown reason he gave up the fight
Rage...rage
Bridge
They say his ghost lingers at his table
Was his death factual or fable?
Some say it was the liquor
Some say it was pneumonia
But he never regained consciousness
And died while in a coma
Repeat chorus

Train Conductor Ghost
© 2020 Cindy Prince
First a spaghetti factory
Then an eatery
You will get such chills
Every time you see
The ghost of a conductor
Standing on the stairs
Looking straight at you
While you're unaware
Chorus
Train conductor in Vancouver
Never strays afar
He is walking back and forth
In the railway car
Sitting in the same seat
Or standing at the bar
There are many cold drafts
Table settings that move
Photographs of him standing
Do you need any proof
He is there watching
Both in the day and night
Do you dare to eat there
Or be filled with too much fright
Repeat chorus

Questions, Questions
© 2020 Cindy Prince
What if cats had tail feathers
And peacocks had fur
What if jelly was the color of mustard
And only hippos were known to purr
What if all ice cream were black
And our hair was made of leaves
What if all our names were Joe
And we our legs went in our sleeves
Chorus
Questions, questions
Do they have to make sense?
Do you have an answer
I'm waiting in suspense
What if all our teeth were red
And our food was only liquid
What if we started out old
And worked our way back to a kid
What if we could throw a ball
All the way to the moon
What if we ate with our feet
And never used a spoon
Repeat chorus
